Dear Families and Friends,
This past fortnight at St.Vincent's has been very energising for me. Each classroom has been working hard at establishing good learning routines while the new foundation students have been a delightful addition to our school community. This week as a school community we joined with Catholic communities around the globe to mark the start of Lent. Today we came together as a community in prayer to gather our thoughts around preparing for Easter. Our school community is made up of families with a wide range of beliefs: Catholics, other religious backgrounds, non-believers and probably a few that might say they are anti-religion. To you all though I say thank you for choosing our school and thank you for embracing what we are trying to do - which is to simply to teach children to be open to living a life that knows the Good News of Jesus. The Gospel teaches us many things including Jesus' directive to 'love one another'. At St.Vincent's we pray that our children know that they are loved but also know the responsibly they have to show love in so many different ways to so many people around the world.
This week began with our Monday Assembly. Across these first few weeks we have continued to add new dimensions to our assembly schedule and our student leaders deserve prise for their adaptability and confidence. This year we have also added a short Monday Morning Briefing that is streamed into each classroom. Once we have the new Admin area operational, and we have the format of the briefing perfected, we think we could investigate recording this presentation and sharing it online. The objective of the briefing is to boost communication, organisation and community connection so who knows where this initiative might deliver.
Yesterday we celebrated Shrove Tuesday as a school community with a newsletter I shared last week detailing the link between the pancake tradition and the start of Lent. I was so appreciative of the helpers who answered my call-out for assistance to help cook so so so many pancakes for the students to enjoy. The past few years have been horrific in terms of enabling volunteerism in schools, as well as other community groups and activities. As the principal it fills me with confidence to offer our students a range of different activities when I trust I will have families step up to help. Thanks to Penny-Lee, Nat, Meg, Peta and BBQ King Brett. As the 2023 school calendar gets busier please reach out when the chance arises - we really value your support. At our recent Parents & Friends meeting we had terrific attendance and I'm excited with engaging with this group across the year as we organise various social, fund-raising and fun events.
Last week our School Swimming Squad headed off to compete in the Morwell District VPSSA Swimming Carnival. It was our first inter-school sport event for the year and thanks must go to our Sports Coordinator Mrs.Stephenson, our talented swimmers and those staff and parents who tagged along. This event was our first permission note for the year listed on PAM and in exciting news PAM has moved from a browser-operated system to now being accessible via a free app. Get excited and get the app downloaded to your phone. The app is called SIMON EVERYWHERE and the login details are the same as your existing PAM account - Remember that SIMON is the program that contains PAM (Parent Access Module). So get SIMON EVERYWHERE on your phone and have access to updates, permission notes and your child's medical profile at your fingertips.
Have lovely warm finish to the week and please take some time to learn more about the Project Compassion Appeal this Lent.

Caritas Australia - PROJECT COMPASSION
The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion.
We have available Project Compassion boxes and/or a set of envelopes for donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion
